Job Description

Working with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within NEPS programs. Support services may occur in a variety of settings and may include: assist in the development of the program; implementation of individual program goals, plan and implement community-based activities focusing on participant’s choices; assisting with personal care as needed and assigned; assisting with daily living activities, teaching/developing skills, advocating with the individual, assisting in communication and self-expression, and ultimately supporting the individual in meeting their own goals. DSPs adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Northeast Placement Services (NEPS) and Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Flexible schedules are a must.

Responsibilities

Exact responsibilities vary by department but general duties include:
• Implementation of individual plans(IP) and behavior plans (BP)
• Documentation and reporting
• Personal hygiene and toileting
• Encourage and facilitate participation in community activities, church, social events, entertainments, recreational and employment opportunities
• Encourage positive attitudes and personal awareness by discussing concerns and setting a positive example
• Encourage independence in household and employment responsibilities
• Encourage good personal hygiene and appropriate and clean attire
• Employ positive approaches to redirecting individuals to a positive and productive demeanor
• Follow OSHA regulations related to safety including use of universal precautions and personal protective equipment as required
• Operating and maintaining lawn care equipment
• Performing any duties as assigned related to the field of service as needed to the department

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Ability to pass a background check and DDS Registry check.
• Valid driver’s license of 5+ years, reliable transportation, a clear driving record, and proof of auto insurance, which must be maintained.
• Experience working with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
• Flexible schedule with availability to work a mixture of shifts to include weekends, holidays and during inclement weather. Understand that you may be “frozen” into shifts as needed in emergent situations.
• Ability to work cooperatively with peers, Supervisor(s) and Director(s).
• Ability to lift over 40 pounds.
• Basic math skills as well as a firm comprehension of the English language

 NEPS has 10 paid holidays within a calendar year. holiday pay is dependent of employment status and applicable waiting period for paid time off. Worked holiday pay is not subject to waiting period.

 NEPS offers paid training to all new and existing employees. Additional pay is offered to employees that go through medication certification and routinely pass medications.
