Community Experience Program

This program offers support to people who are either not ready for employment or do not wish to work. We incorporate recreational, leisure, community and volunteer activities each week that are designed to provide individually supported opportunities for participation in community life. Limited work opportunities are also pursued for those who are interested in part-time employment.

Outings in the Community

We are out in the community every day to places such as local restaurants, retail stores, banks, post offices and parks. We offer our participants a chance to explore different places which they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do.

Community Participation

NEPS' Community Experience Support Staff seek out activities which are rewarding to the people in the program as well as to people in the community. They volunteer each week at the Danielson Soup Kitchen and visit the Provincial House in Putnam.

Employment Exploration

The Community experience Program will explore a person's employment interest by touring local companies and observing the employees. We will work with the employment programs to offer employment opportunities if supports are available.

Agency-wide functions are organized by this program to offer day trips to other NEPS program participants. These trips to the ocean, parks, and museums are enjoyed by all.
